The Water Leaper is a fascinating creature of Scottish mythology as legends and folklore throughout Scotland include tales of this mystical entity. Its habitat might be found in any of the waterbodies of Scotland and somewhere it is also called a water horse. This giant creature is quite strange in appearance as its body resembles a mixture of a horse and a frog. It also has a long powerful lizard-like tail with a stinger at the end. It is considered to be the monster of swamps, ponds, and lakes.

Water Leaper specializes in shapeshifting and is often seen as a graceful horse near rivers and ponds. But if someone proceeds with the intention of catching this horse, he may fall into deep trouble. Because by attracting people towards itself, it returns to its true form and kills them. Furthermore, it has been described as having bat wings instead of forelegs, with which it leaps across the water, hence its name.

Water Leaper is considered to be an evil spirit that has a habit of eating human blood and flesh. Not only this, the Water Leaper has the power to mimic the voice of a victim animal, or human. But if one is not attracted by this voice, and instead goes to help the animal in trouble, it kills that person in the meantime. It is believed that the water leaper's skin is very cold to touch and if it is mostly out of the water, its skin starts leaving a sticky substance. In addition, water algae are considered as a sign of water leaper, and it is believed that even the best swimmers cannot free themselves from its grip.
