There was a time when we used cash everywhere and today we find scanners everywhere. Today's modern world has been subjected to UPI payments where we get lots of cashback and coupon codes. But now the question is, after giving so much cashback, what benefit do these payment apps get, and how do these UPI payment apps actually earn? Today, Paytm, Google Pay, and Phonepe are very common payment apps that are used by almost everyone. Through these apps, we can pay everything from mobile bills to electricity bills, but still, these apps do not charge any platform fees from us, nor do they charge any extra money.
Suppose someone did a mobile recharge of 199 through a UPI app, and for this, he or she has to pay only 199, not even a single rupee more than that. So what benefited the app from this. Actually, these apps charge commissions on the payments made by the customers, that is, when you pay your electricity bill, insurance, DTH, water bill, etc, through UPI payment apps, they get a commission for these transactions. The biggest part of their profit comes from mobile recharges as nowadays everyone prefers to add money to their mobiles through UPI apps.

Similarly, when we make more and more payments, we get many coupon codes and with these codes when we do online shopping, these apps also get commissions on that. All the big companies like VI, Airtel, Jio, Electricity Companies, and DTH companies have deals with Phonepe, Paytm, and Google Pay. And from that suppose these UPI apps are getting 30 to 40 rupees per customer. Now if you consider even 30 rupees per customer, think how many rupees would be earned by including crores of customers. Here both have the advantage, the UPI payment apps as well as companies.

Because today almost everyone uses these apps, so if you give people an easy option to make a payment, they will start using these apps on a daily basis. And companies will also get customers day by day, and apps like Phonepe, Google Pay, and Paytm will continue to get commissions on customers' purchase. Now the next source of income is advertisement, whatever brand or company runs their ads on these apps, they charge money from them. So these were the ways by which these payment apps make money.
