Everyone has seen icicles that are formed on the edges of roofs and vertical surfaces such as cliffs during winter, particularly where water seeps out or drips off. But have you ever seen such icicles that are formed inside the sea? Today we will talk about a rare underwater phenomenon that freezes everything in its path, known as "Brinicle". Due to the presence of a large amount of brine in it, it is called "Brinicle", also known as "Ice Stalactite". It is famous about Brinicle that everything that gets in its way will die out.
When salt water from sea ice, also called brine, flows downward towards the ocean bottom, it takes the shape of a finger, giving it the name "Ice Finger of Death". It is so named because of its deadly nature. Although brinicle poses no threat to humans, these icy fingers pose a great danger to other marine life.

This phenomenon is visible at the bottom of the Antarctic Ocean during the winter season. When there is a very cold environment, an ice column is formed from the surface of the sea to the bottom of the sea, which looks exactly like a human finger, which gives it the name "Finger Of Death". If any creature touches this icy finger or comes in contact with it, then it is killed fiercely on its touch.
The Brinicle was first documented in 1974, and ever since it has baffled scientists and ocean enthusiasts alike. During winter, the temperature above the ocean can drop to at least -40°F, which is much colder than the ocean water. This is the moment when the porous ice layer started forming and salty cold water moves inside it through channels. Water flowing through these channels makes it even denser and colder, carrying more salt with it.

Now as the water exits the channel, a supercooled brine jet is formed, which allows the surrounding ocean water to freeze and create a hollow prolonged tube of ice, or brinicle. In order to maintain the formation, the sea must be calm. When the brinicle approaches a definite size, it becomes self-sustaining and keeps on increasing unstoppably until it reaches the ocean bottom. It then continues to flow like a river of ice, freezing any creature that cannot escape its path, such as starfish. With its unique properties and rare ability, the brinicle keeps on captivating and terrifying those who observe it.
