The Sahara desert is one of the hottest and driest places on earth with the harshest climate, where the hottest temperature ever recorded was 58°C. But in 2022, such a rare sight was seen in Sahara, seeing which people were totally amazed. Despite being the hottest, the desert received heavy snowfall and the temperature reached minus 2 degrees Celsius. The Algerian town of Ain Sefra, also known as the "Gateway to the Sahara", received quite a decent amount of snow. The view of white snow on the red sand was quite breathtaking for the people.
However, the snowfall is rarely seen in Sahara, here the temperature is often recorded around 38 to 40 degrees Celsius during summer. This was the fifth time in the last 43 years that the area witnessed snowfall. Earlier, this region received snowfall in 1979, 2016, 2018, and 2021. Every year, the amount of snowfall was different. It first snowed on February 18, 1979, when a snowstorm hit the Saharan town for half an hour, whereas in 2018 more than 15 inches (40 cm) of snow was recorded.

According to the Meteorological Department, climate change and global warming may be responsible for this rare occurrence. Such snowy events disclose how these kinda occurrences gonna be quite common in the future as the climate is gradually changing due to global warming.
The Sahara Desert extends over the northern part of the continent of Africa and has experienced great changes in temperature and humidity over thousands of years. However, the Sahara Desert is still very dry, but it is speculated that in the coming 15 thousand years it will once again become green.
