You might have seen such a video many times on the internet that a mysterious round light moves aimlessly here and there, and then suddenly disappears. It is sometimes depicted as a ghostly event and sometimes as an unexplained mystery. It is likely that you have heard some such stories from your grandparents as well. This is a rare and unexplained phenomenon associated with hazardous atmospheric lightning-related events, referred to as "Ball Lightning". It is a luminescent sphere, whose size can range from a pea to several meters in diameter.
Although this phenomenon is associated with lightning, it lasts much longer than lightning. In the 19th century, the light ball also burst in two cases, leaving behind an odor of sulfur. Because of the fire and sulfur smell, some explained the ball of fire as "the devil" or as the "flames of hell. According to some people, ball lightning also passes through a closed window. The actual existence of Ball Lightning has not been proven to date, but it has been visible for centuries. Ball lightning sightings have been recorded since the early 1600's, except there is one problem. This type of lightning has been witnessed by only 5% of the people on Earth and it is even the first time that someone has captured it on camera.
According to an incident, on the evening of 27 July 2013, there was a very strong thunderstorm in the area of Kath's (An American woman) home and it rained heavily for about 20 minutes, after which she went outside to feed her hens where she experienced something quite peculiar. She saw a glow of light on the grass looking like bright sunlight and was about 60 cm in diameter. Kath was just trying to make sense of it when a similar ball passed in front of her, but this time with an orange-yellow glow. It went a short distance away and exploded with an incredibly loud thunderous noise.

In another account, there was once a tailor living next to the Church of the Val-de-Grace in Paris, who on the stormy night of 5 July 1852, saw a light ball as large as a human head entering his house through the chimney. He couldn't figure out what it was, and meanwhile, the light ball was moving straight toward him. But again just like Kath, before the tailor could understand anything, that light ball immediately went out through the same path it was entered and exploded destroying the top of the chimney on the way.
In 2007, scientists created ball lightning in the laboratory, which lasted for eight seconds, but no one could prove how it relates to the natural phenomenon. Several hundred theories have emerged so far, but in 2019, Vladimir Torchigin of the Russian Academy of Sciences said that this is not an incident related to lightning. In fact, it is formed due to the trapping of light in a thin layer of air, in which photons keep rebounding inside the air bubble. But still scientists have different opinions about this.
