There are some such creepy and mysterious places in the legends of Japan, which we are still unaware of, one of which is the Kiyotaki Tunnel, famous for being one of the most noted haunted locations in Kyoto. The tunnel connects northern Arashiyama to the neighboring town of Sagakiyotaki. The place is infamous for the scary incidents that happen late at night while entering the tunnel.
In Japan, the number 4 is considered very inauspicious and due to the length of this tunnel being 444 meters, some people consider it unlucky as well. 4 is a cursed number for its reading of "shi", which means "death" in Japanese. But there is another reason behind this tunnel being haunted. In fact, in 1927, this tunnel was built by some slave laborers so that a railway line could be laid through it and a town could be connected to the nearby city. But while the construction work was going on, a severe earthquake caused the tunnel to collapse, killing many workers inside.
Some laborers remained hidden under the debris and those whose dead bodies were found were buried at some distance from the tunnel. It is said that the spirits of these victims are still wandering inside the tunnel. According to people, while driving through the tunnel, these spirits suddenly appear in front of their vehicles. Some lone commuters sometimes felt that someone was sitting next to them and making strange noises, while others found marks of dirty hands on their vehicles.

There are claims of a woman screaming which can be heard at night from the surrounding woods. It is also claimed that traffic signals outside the tunnel may suddenly change from red to green at night, causing accidents with oncoming traffic. But the scariest part was to see a scary woman wearing white running through the tunnel and jumping on the bonnets of cars, causing accidents to occur.
