On 28th April 1874, a strange article was published in New York's newspaper "The World", according to which German explorer and scientist "Karl Leche, and his companion Hendrick discovered a mysterious tree while exploring the forests of Madagascar. This article was actually based on a letter written by Karl that he had sent to his colleague. In this letter, the German scientist wrote about how he and Hendrick were invited by a tribe living in the jungles of Madagascar to witness a mysterious secret ritual involving a tree. According to Karl, it was a very mysterious tree whose trunk was like an eight-foot-tall pineapple, which had eight large leaves.

Each leaf had hook-like thorns, which protected an oozing pool of thick sweet liquid similar to honey. When Karl and his friend got close to the tree, the tribespeople pushed one of their women forward and ordered her to climb the tree. The distressed woman reached one of the liquid pools on the tree and drank the liquid as per the order of the tribe people standing on the ground. According to Karl, after the woman drank the viscous liquid, the tree woke up suddenly, and Karl and Hendrick kept watching with awe, and the tribe members celebrated by playing drums. The twigs dug in the ground under the tree suddenly started emerging out and started tying the woman in the same way as a python binds an animal.

The tree began to strangle the woman and the whole atmosphere resounded with her scream. Within seconds, the tree completely captured the woman, and the tribe members celebrated by drinking the liquid from the tree as if they were all intoxicated and started behaving strangely. Ten days later, Karl secretly reached the same spot alone and saw that the tree contained only the skull of the woman, not a piece of flesh or drop of blood left there. Within a few months, the story spread across all the newspapers and people started searching for the tree. But finding that particular tree in that dense forest was not so easy and even today it is a mystery.
