Food is an essential part of everyone's life as it provides energy to stay healthy as well as the nutrients present in it keep our body alive and play a vital role in its growth. With the development of any civilization, people have prepared many delicious and healthy dishes for themselves, which bring satisfaction and happiness to their lives. But if we look into the history of the world, we find descriptions of many such food items or drinks which had miraculous properties inside, consuming which had magical effects on the human body as well as on consciousness. The locations and recipes of these magical edibles have almost been lost, but some recipes are still there that are said to exist even today.
In some of our previous articles, we have discussed Soma (Somras) and Ayahuasca which fall into the list of miraculous drinks. But today the miraculous food or drink we are talking about is known as "Ambrosia". The concept of Ambrosia is also very much similar to Soma as in Greek mythology Ambrosia was called the food of the gods. The one who eats it becomes immortal, but it was reserved only for divine beings. It is believed that the Greek gods and goddesses living on Mount Olympus used to consume Ambrosia, whose taste was quite similar to honey, and by consuming it once, the physical body of any person became immortal.
The Greek goddess Athena is said to have offered ambrosia to Heracles, and upon its consumption he became immortal. In Greek mythology, Dionysus is considered the god of the grape harvest, winemaking, orchards, fruits, and religious ecstasy. Dionysus had a nurse who was a celestial maiden, and the name of this nymph was Ambrosia. In Ancient art or paintings, the same nymph is shown distributing ambrosia and perhaps on her name, this divine dish was named Ambrosia.
