Several white snow-capped mountains proudly stand in the Himalayan mountain range, holding the title of being the highest mountain peaks in the world. Whenever we think about these peaks, such possible scenes start running through our minds, in which smiling pictures of a few selected climbers start appearing. But it is impossible to guess how much pain is hidden behind those smiles. Because standing on top of such peaks is a dream that passes through such difficult paths, the imagination of which gives goosebumps. Today, through this article, we will introduce you to the terrible truth behind the pain of one similar climber, named Wanda Rutkiewicz.
Polish climber and mountaineer Wanda Rutkiewicz was one of the best Himalayan climbers in history. She was the first woman to reach the summit of K2 and the third woman to climb Mount Everest. She became the first woman in the world to successfully climb Mount K2 in 1986, the second-highest mountain on Earth, after Mount Everest. During her climbing career, Wanda successfully climbed many mountains, and in 1992, she was trying to climb Kangchenjunga but this time the harsh conditions and wilderness dominated her. She was frozen due to the cold and even it was impossible for her to return.
But the real scary part of the story emerged after Wanda's death when one night her friend Ewa Matuszewska received a call from Wanda. As Ewa heard Wanda's voice, she felt a little relieved because Wanda had been missing for a long time. Ewa asked her where she is at the moment, to which Wanda gave a strange reply. Wanda said, I am cold, I am very cold, but don’t cry. Everything will be fine. When Ewa asked her to come back, Wanda simply replied “I cannot now,” after which the phone went dead. But after this incident, Ewa learned that Wanda had already died before the call had actually occurred, making it the weirdest part of the story. It is said that after her unfortunate death in 1992 incident, her spirit is still wandering there.
