We all know that the earth and the moon have a very deep connection with each other as there are many such things on Earth that are directly affected by the Moon. Our entire day schedule is possible just because of the moon and if the moon is removed from the equation, surely many things will change. Tides on earth exist thanks to the gravitational pull of the Moon. But what if the moon breaks into two parts?
First of all, if the moon splits from the middle now, it will take millions of years for those two parts to drift apart from each other. This means if the Moon were to split in the middle, it would take countless years for the two halves to separate completely and during this the broken Moon would be seen orbiting the Earth. During this process, many of its fragments will be floating in space, which will gradually come and merge into those two separated parts, due to which these two parts would take a circular shape over time.

Then after a long period, these two separate pieces will act like two moons for the earth and will be seen orbiting it. Now since both the pieces are weak enough individually, they will start coming quite nearer to the Earth, appearing very large to us. Though both would be very small in size, but because they would have come very close due to Earth's gravitational pull, they would appear very large. Like the moon, we are shown in movies, much bigger in size, something like that, that too two different moons.

These were the results in the long term, but what will be the consequences in the short term? In the short term, when the Moon splits into two, it would immediately pose a major threat to Earth's marine life. Basically, the Moon plays a big role by affecting Earth's beautiful ocean tides and with its effect on tides and ocean currents, it prompts many types of marine creatures to mate at specific times of the month and year. The illumination from a full moon can affect various behavioral patterns of marine organisms, especially spawning, feeding, and other habits. Now if the Moon breaks, its gravity will weaken, resulting in the ocean waves becoming much smaller and less, endangering marine life. Neither the birds will be able to migrate nor the marine life will be able to survive properly.
Also, because of the moon, the rotation of the earth remains under control and if the moon is not there, the Earth would spin much faster, shortening the day on Earth to only six to twelve hours long. Due to this the earth's axis will also change or tilt more, which will bring dramatic seasonal changes. Generally, the moon stabilizes the earth's tilt, and without moon, it would move from no tilt to a large tilt. No tilt means no seasons and a large tilt means extreme weather and even ice ages.
This was just a hypothesis, but is it really likely to happen in the future? Scientists have found a strange thing on the moon called thrust faults. When the moon was initially formed, it was full of hot lava as it likely started its life as a giant ball of magma and over time it has cooled down. So as it cools down, the moon has also shrunk a bit, due to thermal cooling. Therefore, tension also develops on the surface, due to which moonquakes (a quake on the Moon) occur there. An average moonquake has a magnitude of five Richter scale. But because of this quality of Moon, we cannot say that moon will break in the future as according to mathematics, the moon is not so weak. But if a very huge asteroid ever collided with the moon, then it can become a possibility.
