The region of the Himalayas has always been the abode of ancient and divine sages as many people keenly visit the region to get the darshan of such miraculous saints, but only a few are fortunate enough to see them. One such divine saint is Mahavatar Babaji whose age is said to be thousands of years, about whom a belief is quite prevalent that he resides in Gyanganj, the divine region of the Himalayas. Babaji himself is invisible and is visible only to those who remember him with a true heart as he can give his holy darshan to whomever he wants. Even his ashram is invisible which is called Siddhashrama, popularly called Gyanganj.
Another thing that makes Babaji even more mysterious is his age, in fact, very few people have seen Babaji, and those who got this opportunity told their age to be around 18 to 25 years. He is said to have subdued death and for this reason, he is also known as Immortal Baba or Deathless Guru. Paramahansa Yogananda, a devotee of Mahavatar Babaji, has given a lot of information about him in his book "Autobiography of a Yogi", in which he has told how Yogiraj Lahiri Mahasaya met Babaji several times from 1861 to 1935 and each time his age was almost the same.

It is said that once a person insisted on taking initiation from Babaji. On refusing, he said that if he does not get initiation, he will jump from the mountain. On this Babaji said as you wish and the man jumped. Babaji then asked his disciples to bring the dead body of that person to the hill. Babaji brought him back to life by putting his hands on his head and said that he had passed his last test, so now he will be blessed with the initiation.
As mentioned earlier Babaji has been seen by very few people in history and Yogiraj Gurunath is one of them who has been walking on the spiritual path since childhood. When Gurunath turned 23, a strong desire emerged in him to see Babaji, which took him to the Himalayas in search of Babaji. He had an idea that climbing the Himalayas is not an easy task and after that getting Babaji's darshan is even more difficult. But he had firmly decided that even if he lost his life, he would move ahead continuously to get darshan of Babaji. During the climb, he met many sadhus, whom he asked about Babaji, but no one knew his whereabouts.

On going a little higher, Gurunath began to feel as if his state of mind was becoming somewhat strange as if his awareness had begun to expand. After reaching a certain height, he reached near a trench where the path was very narrow. Now he was quite tired, so he lay down there to take some rest, but then suddenly he heard a divine voice. Gurunath understood that his wish was fulfilled. He bowed down to that divine being as Babaji was standing before him in a holy form.
