The Himalayas are considered to be an ancient, divine, and mysterious mountain range. From Hindu scriptures to travelers visiting the Himalayas, everyone describes its secrets. The region is also said to be the abode of all kinds of divine and devil powers. Also, the tales of mysterious creatures and aliens have always been prevalent there. Through this story, we will learn about one such ghostly incident that took place in Bara Lacha La, a high mountain pass in the Zanskar range of the Himalayas.
Baralacha pass, situated at an altitude of 16040 feet above sea level, is such a place that looks very beautiful in the morning and scary at night. It is an extreme climate zone that is covered with snow for most of the year. The Shaheed Sainik Bhavan existed there was earlier a fully functioning army post which has a dreadful history to tell.

There was a time when three soldiers were posted in the area. The time of January and February is often very harsh in the region, but during that time the snowfall broke all the previous records. Snow was falling continuously due to which the transport system had completely failed. The soldiers trapped there kept fighting for their lives for completely two months. Even contact with them was completely lost due to the failure of the radio system. At the time of March, the weather was slightly clear, and the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) while clearing the roads reached the spot to give food supplies to the soldiers.
But there they encounter a gruesome sight of a strange man eating the remains of a dead body in the cabin. All three soldiers were in pieces and had been half-eaten. The rescue team was horrified to see this scene. The cannibal was about to attack the team but they opened fire on him and he died on the spot. This incident left a deep question in everyone's mind how could a single person kill three soldiers who were well-armed?

The locals believed that the area was inhabited by evil spirits and ghosts that could possess someone and make them do such things. Soldiers who were posted there after talked about hearing strange whispers and seeing apparitions of ghosts wandering around at night. Those three soldiers had lost their lives while on duty, hence the name of the post is now “Shaheed Smarak Bhavan”.
