Earlier in India, you must have noticed that a lot of dirt was usually found on railway tracks such as human waste or excreta but nowadays nothing like that can be seen. Now the tracks of the trains are looking very neat and clean. Is the railway now getting the tracks cleaned every day? So let's try to figure out how this could become possible and what logic is actually working behind this whole concept.

Actually, in earlier trains, the open discharge system was installed, in which all the human waste would release out of the train directly and fall onto the tracks. This caused a lot of trouble for the trackman while cleaning and in some cases, the tracks got even rusted. Therefore, keeping this in mind, bio-toilet tanks i.e. Biodigesters have been installed in today's trains.
As you can see, there are cylindrical-shaped boxes fitted under the train toilet, in which many bacteria (anaerobic bacteria) are already present, which breaks down human waste into many small particles as they consume the waste material and convert it into water and gas. After which the waste in the form of gas and water is released from the train without littering the railway tracks, thereby preventing about 2,74,000 liters of human excreta from falling on the tracks every day.
