Just as our world is inhabited by different types of divine beings, similarly different types of paranormal entities also exist here. In various folktales around the world, many stories of such strange and dark entities are found which are living with us, without even making us aware of it. And such entities usually wake up in the darkness of the night with all their might and hurt or kill thousands of people. In today's article, we are going to talk about one such ghostly entity that has been held responsible for the mysterious deaths of many people.
Dartmoor National Park, located in the southwest of England, is one of the most mysterious forests in the world, home to a large population of ponies. Filled with beautiful rivers and landscapes, the national park is an ideal vacation spot, but locals believe that there exists such a paranormal entity that encountering it is a sign of great trouble. This ghostly being is known by the name "dark hands" or "hairy hands" because only this part of it is visible and is linked to hundreds of accidents and deaths.
Encounters of this ghost began to appear in the early 20th century when people started telling tales of two giant hairy hands. According to the witnesses, during the night drive in the area of this moorland, two giant disembodied hairy hands appear suddenly, which grab the steering wheel of the car or the handlebars of a motorcycle and forcefully cause an accident. That evil power throws people down from the Postbridge, so that they couldn't survive. Most of the people in these accidents narrowly escaped and narrated their ordeal to others.
At first, the locals considered it to be a fake circulating story but in the year 1921, the same incident happened with the medical officer "E.H. Helby" of Dartmoor Prison. He was driving towards the prison on his motorcycle at night, and his two daughters were riding in the sidecar. Then suddenly an unknown evil force grabbed his hands and started turning the handlebar violently. Helby told his daughters to jump off the sidecar and as they jumped, Helby fell off the bridge and died on the spot.
According to two girls, it was the same two hairy hands that pushed Helby down the bridge. The locals also knew that Helby was an expert driver as well as a non-drinker. Hundreds of stories emerged after this incident, where people could see only two giant hairy hands. After the accident of an army captain, the news spread like fire across the country and even today, the entity is believed to remain active at night.
