Most of the time you might have noticed that when a movie starts then this intro is shown which is the logo of Sony/Columbia Pictures. But it will surprise you a little that the woman you can see in this picture (on the left) isn't fully animated, but a real woman, Jenny Joseph. And behind the scenes, this logo looks something like what you can see in the picture (on the right) which has a curtain in the studio and a girl standing in a pose, and that was shot in 1992 and continues to this day.
Michael J. Deas, an illustrator was given the responsibility of creating a new logo for Columbia Pictures at that time. Deas needed a model to pose for the torch lady. Michael had a friend named Kathy Anderson who had a co-worker named "Jenny Joseph". So when Jenny was asked if she would like to shoot for an intro as a model. She agreed. But what did she know then how big an opportunity this would prove to be for her because she had just casually accepted the proposal. But later she became the iconic face of Columbia Pictures as the Torch Lady. And now it has become one of the most famous intros in the world of movies. Jenny Joseph, unfortunately, died on 8 January 2018.
