It is often heard that dragons are not only mythical creatures that have become extinct, but they still exist in uninhabited areas and even beneath the surface of the earth. One such monstrous creature is the Kongamato which is found in the deserted areas of Africa. Several claims of the sightings of this creature are made in the swamps areas of east-central Africa. This giant flying creature started getting widespread attention when the well-known explorer Frank Welland described it in his book "In Witchbound Africa".
In this book published in the year 1932, Kongamato has been described as a large creature of a reddish-black color, which had leathery wings as well as sharp teeth in its beak. The natives have always been seeing this creature, and they all give a similar description of this creature which is not different from one another. The Jiundu swamp area of Zambia is considered a hotspot for the sightings of kongamato. The word Kongamato means "destroyer of boats" or "breaker of boats". The name is so because Kongamato often carries fishermen out of their boats and eats them.
A very popular account was described in 1956 when an engineer named J.P.F. Brown was standing in the same area near Lake Bangweulu and suddenly spotted strange huge creatures flying in the sky. According to him, these creatures were quite huge, whose color was reddish-black and looked prehistoric. Exactly a year after this incident, a person was admitted to Rosebery hospital, who had severe wounds on his chest. After treatment, he told the doctor that he was attacked by Kongamato. The attack took place at the same spot where J. P. F. Brown had reported seeing strange flying creatures. When that person was asked to draw a picture of the animal, he made the same creature as the natives have been telling for so long.
