There exists a twin village near Kashmir, which is believed to be haunted by the spirits of women. In fact, the pair of these two villages of Kunan and Poshpara located in Kupwara have actually been named as twin villages. This place has been claimed to be the abode of many women spirits who died an agonizing death as this legend began with a traumatic event in history. The incident was also reported in the New York Times. 

On 23 February 1991, when some militants fired on the soldiers, according to reports in the subsequent proceedings, the soldiers conducted a search operation in these twin villages of Kunan and Poshpora. During this, some villagers claimed that about 100 women were raped that night by uniformed men, brutally tortured, and killed. It was such a tragic incident that no soul living or dead could tolerate. After this incident, the angry spirits of these women started haunting these villages as they were seen by many people and many have even experienced their screaming voices. According to people, these lady ghosts do not harm anyone but only walk around here at night expressing their pain.

In addition, a haunted tree is also present on the way to Gurez from Srinagar, which looks quite scary by its appearance, and is believed to be evil. People believe that if there is a shadow of ghosts in an area, then the trees there dry up, and this strange tree has also been standing here for years without any leaves. The environment around it also looks very spooky, and even this tree is believed to be possessed by many evil spirits. People often hear strange noises while passing near this haunted tree and they even say if someone touches the tree on the Amavasya night, then surely he or she will be possessed by evil spirits.
