Lake Lanier in Georgia is considered one of the most haunted places in America, as well as the deadliest lake in the world. Because of its sinister reputation, Lake Lanier is also known as the "Cursed lake of Georgia”, as many disturbing unfortunate events have occurred here, especially ghostly encounters. For many Georgians, the lake in the northeast of Atlanta is a recreational hotspot, where boating and water sports also take place. But according to the legend, the ghost of a dead woman roams here at night wearing a blue dress. According to locals, several drownings of swimmers have been reported in the lake who disappeared after jumping in. As the saying goes, some mysterious arms reach out from the depths of the water for the swimmers and angry spirits drag them to the graveyard submerged in great depth.
Lanier is a man-made lake, created by the flooding valley communities in the 1950s. During this, they had moved an estimated twenty cemeteries to higher ground in the vicinity of the lake's future boundaries, during which time some of the burials were not attended. According to historians, some unmarked graves submerged into the depths as soon as the water came into the lake, and perhaps this is the reason that now the anger of those spirits has erupted. More than 200 deaths have been reported here since 1994 and the figure for unreported deaths is not available. The deaths mostly occurred in drownings, boating accidents, and drivers of cars entering the water.
