Do you know that it is forbidden to take a dip in Mansarovar Lake? Pilgrims going there take the water of the lake in buckets and take a bath while standing on the shore, as they are not allowed to take a holy dip inside the lake. In the Hindu religion, there is a sacred rule to take three dips at a time in a holy river or pond, but it is not allowed in Kailash Mansarovar. The reason behind this will surprise you a bit.
Kailash Mansarovar falls in a remote area in the Tibet Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China, and it is the main center of faith for Hindus. This lake is situated at an average altitude of 13000 feet above sea level. Every year a large number of devotees go there to visit Mount Kailash and bathe in Mansarovar Lake. Travelers circumambulate Mount Kailash first and then offer prayers after bathing in the holy Mansarovar Lake. This lake of fresh water at such a height is a wonder in itself, while the other lake built near it, named Rakshastal, is saline.

Till a few years ago there was no ban on taking a dip in the lake, but later something happened that it was banned completely. The Chinese government imposed this restriction to protect the water of this holy lake from being polluted. Actually, the fault behind this was on the side of the pilgrims, because before visiting the Mansarovar lake, all the people were advised by the Chinese administration to take care of the cleanliness of the lake. But many people did not pay attention to it, as some travelers were caught bathing in Mansarovar lake with soap and even washing clothes.
Some people even used to throw old clothes in the lake, and due to this, the water of the lake was getting polluted. Hence, to save the water of the lake from becoming dirty, the Chinese administration banned bathing in Mansarovar lake. This incident is a lesson for all those people who do not pay attention to the cleanliness of any natural and holy place. Not only Lake Mansarovar, but we should care about the cleanliness of all our rivers, ponds, and natural sources of water. Even though we clean ourselves by bathing with soap, it adds chemicals to the river or lake water, which increases the risk of water contamination.
