Has your cab driver or serviceman at the CNG pump ever asked you to step out of the car while filling CNG? Although it is not necessarily required while filling petrol or diesel, so what is the reason that compels you to do so only in case of filling CNG in the vehicle.
Well, there may be many reasons involved in this, but the most well-known cause is that it is much cheaper to drive with CNG as compared to petrol and diesel. But at the same time, the danger in CNG is also much higher as it is a more hazardous option than petrol or diesel. Because the pumps store CNG gas at high pressure and any kind of leak, pressure, or other reasons can cause an accident.
The second reason is the absence of factory-fitted CNG in these vehicles. Most of the vehicles in India are not in the factory-fitted CNG variant. In fact, vehicles that do not have a factory-fitted CNG system have filler nozzles inside the bonnet or under the rear seat. In such a situation, many times it is not known where the filler nozzle has been provided, and thus the passengers in the car do not aware of the exact location of the filler nozzle, so as a safety measure they are dropped from the car.
The third reason could be that CNG vehicles are fitted with gas cylinders, leading people to avoid sitting in the car while refilling. The belief behind this is that if any kind of leakage or burst occurred in the gas cylinder, then people will have a chance to save their life.
Compared to petrol and diesel, CNG vehicles are more prone to accidents while filling and one of the major reasons for this is the installation of separate CNG systems in the vehicles. Actually, in many places, this setting is not done properly, which increases the risk of fire in the running vehicle. In such a situation, if this accident happens at the filling station, then a big accident can happen.
The smell of CNG can also bother you sometimes, although it is not toxic, but coming in contact with it can make you feel dizzy. So it is better to get off the vehicle while getting CNG filling done.
Compared to petrol and diesel, the meter of the CNG pump is slightly different, so in such a situation, the customer is asked to get off the car to avoid any kind of fraud by keeping an eye on the meter.
