In the cold icy northern forests of the United States and the forests of Minnesota’s north woods near the Great Lakes region of Canada, there are tales of a prevalent malevolent spirit, named Wendigo. This creature is depicted as a monster, with some characteristics resembling those of humans. This monster sometimes possessed humans in the form of the spirit itself and made them monstrous. Historically, Wendigo's behavior has been associated with cannibalism, never-ending greed, murder, and cultural taboos. Wendigo is well known by the people of the tribes living in the surrounding areas since ancient times, as they have depicted it as a giant that is many times taller than humans. It is generally seen as a dangerous spirit that lives in extremely cold and snowy areas, where there is nothing to eat.

The people of the Ojibwe tribe described this creature as being so large, as tall as a tree, without lips or a lipless mouth and jagged teeth. It releases its breath with a strange hissing sound and its footprints are always filled with blood and it devours men, women, and children, or anyone who entered its territory. Sometimes this spirit does not prefer to eat humans, instead, it enters into their bodies, resulting in them also getting turned into a Wendigo. As a result, the luckless individual, who just turned into a wendigo, hunts down those he had an old relationship with or whom he loved once. According to a legend, a Wendigo is created when a human helplessly becomes a cannibal in order to stay alive. There have been many times in history when people were stuck in snowy areas for a long time and had no means of food, so they tried to save their lives by eating the dead.

The description of this creature varies slightly, but everyone has called it a giant creature, with glowing eyes, terrifying claws, and overly long tongues. Many times, it has also been said that this creature has several supernatural powers and skills. It is a highly skilled hunter that uses every inch of its territory and can control the weather through dark magic. There have been hundreds of reported sightings of Wendigo in America's forests. As the 20th century approached, the surrounding tribe claimed the Wendigo to be behind many of the people's disappearances. According to a famous story, Swift Runner, a Native American man, killed and ate his entire family members during the winter season of 1878-79. Eventually, he confessed this and many claimed that he was possessed by Wendigo.
