In the year 1796 in Louisiana of the United States, a luxurious property was built by General David Bradford. This historic home was inhabited by the Woodruff family, who were engaged in experiencing a very lavishing life. Also, they had many slaves to work with, one of whom was "Chloe", a slave owned by Clark and Sara Woodruff. Chloe worked indoors and always wanted to work inside the home because working in the fields involves a lot of hard work and a hassle. Various rumors existed about this family, such as Clark Woodruff having an affair with female slaves, or he had pressured Chloe into being his mistress, but it's not actually confirmed.
One night, Chloe is said to have discovered that Clark had an affair with another slave girl working in the fields, fearing that she would now be forced to work in the fields with other slaves, as the other female slave (Clark had an affair with) would soon be given household duties. As a result, Chloe wanted to gather evidence against the two of them and use it to prove herself worthy of being in the house. That's why she secretly kept an eye on their activities and started listening in at keyholes to learn news about them. But Clark caught her red-handed while doing so and as a punishment, he cut off one of her ears, after which she hid her ears by wearing a green turban. Consequently, she mixed poison in the cake to take revenge, but instead of Clark, his wife Sara and two daughters ate the cake.
But according to one story, she added some poisonous crushed oleander leaves to the cake in the hope that the poison would make his daughters sick so that she would have to nurse them back to health, resulting in securing her own spot in the house. But her plan actually took a very opposite turn, contrary to what she actually intended, and the amount of poison she had mixed into the cake led to the death of Sara and her two daughters. After this incident, the other slaves feared that they would be charged with murder by the Union, and to escape punishment by Clark Woodruff, they dragged Chloe out of the bed that night, hanged her, and then threw her body into the river.
Today this site is considered one of America's most haunted homes. Also, the mirror located in the house is supposedly possessed by the spirits of Sara Woodruff and two of her children. It is believed that during the night time the glimpses of all three of them are seen in the mirror as if their spirits have been trapped in it forever. Many times it is also seen that someone has left their handprints in the mirror. But the legend says that this site is supposedly home to at least 12 ghosts, but the most popular ghost to haunt this historic home is Chloe.
