At the end of a tired, tense day, the mind can be pleased by eating hot Dal-Chawal, helping to make stress less effective. No matter how many pizzas, burgers, or pasta you eat, the comfort you get in homemade Dal-Chawal is nowhere to be found. There is probably no more common dish in Indian households than this. Because after tea, if any dish has got a high status in Indian homes, it is Dal-Chawal. But what if we say that the Dal-Chawal that we have been eating since childhood is not an Indian dish at all, shocking right? Actually, Dal-Chawal is a Nepali dish and from there this fabulous combination was introduced to India. The inhabitants of Nepal first ate dal (lentils) and Chawal (rice) mixed together and this combination became such a hit that it became a member of Indian households. Today, in every corner of India, many variations of this dish are made, some like simple dal (lentils), and some like fried. Whereas in South India, lentils are also used along with vegetables for making sambar.
Why Is Dal-Chawal So Famous In India?
Now the question is why Dal-Chawal is so famous in India? Well, foods everywhere have some historical and some nutritional status, that is, what kind of diet would be most useful. Traditional people in India are more vegetarian than omnivores (non-vegetarian). The reason is that traditionally the crops in India grow better than in most parts of the world, and because of this, the need to consume meat here is less required.

In addition, there are always three important nutrients required in our diets such as proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. You can get carbohydrates from rice, fats from ghee and butter, and proteins from Lentils, which are actually considered to be the best source of protein in a vegetarian diet. In this way, if you mix these three things, then you get a good diet. Apart from this, vegetables and fruits are also included in the diet for vitamins and minerals.
