Everyone is troubled by mosquitoes, as they usually suck our blood and endanger our lives with so many dreadful diseases. But have you ever wondered why these mosquitoes drink only human blood?
This would make you a little surprised that among mosquitoes only female mosquitoes suck human blood, male mosquitoes never bite anyone. Generally, females bite and suck blood for reproduction because when male and female mosquitoes involve in mating, the female needs a lot of nutrition so that she can lay her eggs. So the major reason for sucking human blood is to get lots of needed protein in blood to develop eggs. On the other hand, male mosquitoes just eat flower nectar, plant sap, or honeydew for nourishment. Blood meals aside, males and females have the same diet. Although we cannot distinguish between male and female mosquitoes with our naked eyes, so the next time a mosquito bites you, just understand that it is a female.
Why Do Mosquito Bites Itch?
You must have noticed that immediately after the bite of a mosquito, the area starts itching, but why does this happen? It is certain that along with a mosquito bite, some substance is released in our body, due to which reaction takes place and itching starts. Some even get rashes or red marks on the itchy area. A problem like itching occurs because our body reacts immediately as soon as the mosquito bites on the skin and the result of the same is visible in the form of itching, rashes, and spots.
Actually, when a mosquito bites, it injects a tiny amount of its saliva into the body, but our body has its own immune system which reacts and responds quickly to any unfamiliar substance. The same situation happens with mosquito saliva, which causes the body to take the saliva as a chemical, which is not essential for the body. The body's immune system immediately decides to take it out, and for this, a signal from the immune system goes to the brain, which instantly causes a chemical reaction in the body and the mosquito bite area starts itching.

Sometimes there is also swelling occurs around the bite area which is caused by histamine. Histamine is a chemical that the immune system produces, as the amount of histamine in the blood increases, so does the white blood cell count around the affected area increases, causing inflammation or swelling. It is also possible that if someone is bitten by a mosquito for the first time, then the reaction may not be seen in it, because the body's immune system is not prepared in advance for any external chemical. Or rather say that the immune system would not have been identified with any such chemical. But as the mosquitoes bite continuously over time, the immune system understands this and reacts accordingly.
