Everyone is aware that the dog is the most loyal animal to humans and is also a little more sociable than other animals. But dogs have a very strange habit that you might have noticed somewhere. That is, all of us might have seen dogs urinating by raising their legs and wetting the electric poles or vehicles tires, but have you ever wondered why dogs prefer mostly these two places to urinate.
There is actually a social reason behind urinating on car tires and electric poles, as urinating on such targets, dogs leave their smell for other dogs. Since dogs have a sense of smell, it acts as a warning to any other dog entering the area. Many scientists did research on this and found that dogs do this to mark their territory. Along with this, they also use this smell as a way of identifying their route.
Dogs generally prefer vertical level targets to pee or a spot that is upright, because this makes their target more accurate. Also, with this unique action, they leave the smell of their urine at nose height for other dogs. Urinating at a higher altitude than urinating on the ground, persists for a longer period of time without affecting its odor. This means that the smell of urine present on the vertical surface lasts longer than on the horizontal one. This habit allows them to introduce other dogs to their area, and this also means that they may pass on information about their territory to other dogs.
Dogs also urinate on vehicle tires as the vehicles travel long distances. Therefore, as soon as the smell of any foreign element is near the vehicle, it attracts the attention of the dog. Well, this attitude is mostly seen in male dogs as they are more aware and possessive of their territory.
