There are many types of insects found on Earth, some of which we are aware of, and some are still unknown to us. At the same time, many insects always keep flying around us, especially if we talk about mosquitoes, we can say that they are a part of our daily life. But what if you were asked if you knew of a place where you wouldn't see a single mosquito, obviously your answer would be a big "No". But let us tell you that there is one such place exists on earth that is considered mosquito-free.
Iceland, with a population of three lakhs in the North Atlantic Ocean, is the only country in the world that does not have a single mosquito, as Mosquitoes do not breed here. The reason for the absence of mosquitoes in Iceland is the constant change in temperature, due to which mosquitoes are not able to adapt themselves to these changes. Actually, Iceland has very low temperatures, which can reach -38 °C and freeze Icelandic waters, making breeding of mosquitoes impossible.
So far, many types of research have been done on why there are no mosquitoes in Iceland, but still, no exact answer has been found. The biggest thing is that Iceland is not that cold, as there are many other countries that are considered the coldest, and at the same time, there are many lakes and ponds as well, where mosquitoes often breed. But despite this, not a single mosquito is found here, while its neighboring countries like Scotland, Greenland, Denmark, and Norway are full of mosquitoes.
Now the question arises what is the reason that mosquitoes do not breed here. People have different answers about this, as some experts say that Iceland's marine environment does not allow mosquitoes to breed. Also, there is a severe winter thrice a year, while once the snow melts, therefore mosquitoes cannot survive.
At the same time, some people say that there is such a chemical composition in the soil and air, which is not favorable for mosquitoes. However, it is also claimed that there is no guarantee that mosquitoes will not breed here in the future. Because due to global warming, the number of mosquitoes is going to increase, and in the coming time, mosquitoes can be seen in Iceland too.
According to scientific research, due to the increase in the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, the temperature of cold regions is also rising. As a result, Europe will see a sudden increase in mosquito numbers over the next few decades.
