Why Dubai's 300 islands are still deserted? Undoubtedly, Dubai is a land full of technology and innovation, but in the case of the World Islands, it got a severe disappointment.
The story behind the failure of man-made islands is quite shocking. It is a matter of 2003 when Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum of Dubai launched a project named "The World" under which he wanted to make an archipelago of small artificial islands constructed in the shape of a world map in the Dubai sea.
Firstly, a map of "The World's Islands" was created, representing a complete view of 300 islands that would look exactly like the world map once they were created. Building islands by pouring sand into the sea was a challenging task in itself, but the engineers did not give up and made the impossible task possible, resulting in the 300 islands being constructed in the sea of Dubai within the next few years.
The main purpose of making these islands was to promote Dubai tourism by building big villas on them, and it took around $14 billion to complete this entire project. But after it was built, it was realized that all the money spent on the project was wasted, as its first drawback was that it was not constructed in the shape of a world map. The second problem occurs when later the financial condition of Dubai started deteriorating due to which its construction work had to be stopped. The third problem was that gradually these islands were started sinking into the sea, which led to a complete halt in construction, leaving the island completely deserted, making it the most expensive piece of failed architecture in history.
