How a little mistake of scientists gave birth to such a bee whose bite hurts so much causing people to die immediately due to severe pain. Many of us may have experienced a sting from a bee, which may have brought little pain or discomfort for a while. But do you know that there is such a species of bee that is said to have killed at least 1,000 people by its sting? Not only humans but also animals could not escape their wrath, as many horses and other animals have died due to the sting of these bees. In fact, in 1957, a biologist named Warwick E Kerr thought of preparing a hybrid of a honey bee that could produce more honey. Actually, the normal honey bees were not able to make much honey, that is why Warwick wanted to change the DNA of those bees to create a new species of bee that could produce more honey. With this purpose, he along with his team created a hybrid of a different honeybee by crossbreeding the African honey bee and the European honey bee. They carefully put those new hybrid bees in a big jar and named them Africanized bees. But what was about to happen after that was completely beyond their imagination. They noticed that these new bees were much more aggressive than normal bees, which means, they had accidentally given birth to a species of bee that was actually very dangerous for humans.
Now Warwick thought that he would kill those bees in this jar, but unfortunately, 26 swarms somehow got out from the jar and started increasing the population by crossbreeding rapidly. These bees then spread throughout the South American and North American continents. These new bees were very aggressive and would attack anyone with the slightest bit of annoyance. Africanized bees are said to be able to chase a person up to 400 meters and have a sting 10 times greater than that of European bees. Now you will be surprised to know that till date 1,000 people have died due to their stings. Now you can guess how much pain it would be if bitten by them and that is why these bees are given another name of killer bees.
