You might have heard or read numerous news about the emergency landings of planes, but have you ever heard that due to someone's fart, the plane had to make an emergency landing. You might find this a little weird to hear, but it's absolutely true. In the past, a similar incident has happened, as you would be surprised to know a passenger's gas problem caused the plane to make an emergency landing.
This is actually the incident of 2006 when an American Airlines flight was going from Washington to Dallas. So there was a woman sitting in that flight who was farting and to disguise the odor of her flatulence, she lit a match, which made the crew members think that there was something wrong with the plane. Crew's suspicions became clear when, after noticing a suspicious smell, several passengers informed the cabin crew that they could smell burning matches. Due to this, the pilot had to make an emergency landing of the plane at an airport in the middle of the way.
After landing in Nashville, all the passengers were taken off from the plane for security checks and bomb-sniffing dogs were sent onto the flight. The dogs were capable of finding a number of burnt matches under one passenger’s seat. After questioning by the FBI, it was revealed that the woman had a medical condition and she was lighting matches in an attempt to conceal the odor of her flatulence. But after the plane took off again, she was not allowed back on the plane. Since it was found that the incident was just accidental, and she had no intention of doing wrong, she was acquitted and not charged in the incident.
