There is an interesting story due to which the lake got its name. According to Folklore, there was a village near the lake in which a prince named Saif-ul-Malook lived. He often used to come and sit near this lake and spend his time. One day he was sitting near the lake when he saw a fairy, who was actually the queen of fairies named Princess Badri-ul-Jamala. The prince fell in love with the fairy at first sight. The fairy often used to come to bathe in this lake and keep her clothes on the edge of the lake.
One day the prince hid her clothes, but when the fairy asked him for her clothes back, he said to the fairy, if you want the clothes back, then you have to marry me. The fairy had no choice and agreed to the marriage. But there was a mighty Jinn who was in love with the fairy too and when he came to know about it, he angrily flooded the lake, drowning the prince's house in water. It is said that this love story was celebrated by fairies, they used to come to this lake every night and bathe in the memory of that prince.
