In 1965, the entire world was completely shocked after the emergence of a very bizarre case, involving a dolphin committing suicide. There have been countless cases of suicide due to heartbreak, but you have hardly heard or seen this particular case before, in which due to heartbreak, not a human but a dolphin committed suicide. So before we move further, you should know dolphins are considered to be the most intelligent creature after humans.
Actually, in 1965, NASA started a new project that aimed at teaching dolphins human language, especially English, so they chose a male dolphin named Peter and an animal researcher Margaret Howe Lovatt for teaching the dolphin to talk. Classes reportedly took place six days a week, during which the two were kept together for most of the time. As reports suggest, Dolphin developed feelings for Lovett as it preferred to be near its trainer. Lovett also described Peter as an "obsessive lover" who always used to follow her and became depressed when separated. According to various media sources, the relationship between the two had even turned physical as well.

But a few days later the dolphin became so attached to its trainer that when NASA separated them both after terminating the project for certain reasons, the dolphin committed suicide. The dolphin took its own life as it voluntarily stopped breathing. As you must know that dolphins also have lungs like humans and they cannot breathe underwater like fish, so they have to frequent trips to the surface of the water to catch a breath. But the peter dolphin did not come to the surface and voluntarily stopped breathing. That's enough for humans to understand how innocent and intelligent dolphins are.
