You must have seen pictures of Mahavishnu on the internet and all these pictures have one thing in common, that is Mahavishnu's eyes which are closed or just say that God is busy in deep sleep. Is there any connection between our universe and the origin of parallel universes and Mahavishnu's sleep? According to Rigveda, the universe in which we are living is a physical universe" or "material universe" that is not infinite like the spiritual universe, in simple language, the material universe has its limits, whereas the spiritual universe is infinite, and situated in higher dimensions. We all know that the Lord resides in higher dimensions, and the spiritual forces emanating from the Lord and the Lord himself reside with those who are the supreme devotees of him. But there are some spiritual powers which, in spite of being born from the Lord, do not accept the higher honor of the Lord and are willing to take the place of him.
Just as the finger of the hand is important only as long as it is attached to the body, similarly these spiritual forces or souls also have importance as long as they are engaged in the service of the Lord. But because these spiritual forces or souls originate from the Lord, some of these powers try to take the place of the Lord or live independently like the Lord. This desire to live independently of these spiritual forces pushes them on a long and difficult journey through the material universe. Creator (the supreme being), respecting the desire of all these spiritual forces to be independent, orders Mahavishnu to create a material Universe or Maya. The purpose of Maya is to keep any spiritual force or soul in illusion and away from God so that the soul prefers Maya instead of its actual reality.
It is in such a way that when a little girl disturbs her mother while cooking, her mother brings her a fake cooking set on which she cooks imaginary food and remains happy and does not disturb her mother. Similarly, this material universe is like a fantasy or a dream for those freedom-seeking souls in which they are continuously engaged. This whole creation is also like a dream for Mahavishnu, in which he orders the cosmic Vishnu located in many parallel universes to create different people by Brahma. That is why it is said that when Mahavishnu wakes up from sleep, all the parallel universes also come to an end.
Apart from this, showing the cosmic Vishnu in sleep reflects the principle of karma or action in Hindu Sanatana Dharma, so that there should be no discrimination with anyone, whatever one does, one should get the same in return. The role of cosmic Vishnu is established only as balancing the various parallel universes, not to forgive one's sins, hence it is said that the life of this world is merely the enjoyment of delusion.
