Why are the roads always constructed black, that is to say, why are the roads not painted with different colors like yellow, red, blue, and any other color. You probably didn't know this, but you must have seen the road being made with the help of several machines, which keep making so much noise throughout the day. So the main material which is used during the roads' construction is called asphalt, also known as bitumen. You might have heard about the word "asphalt" from many sources, especially in games, but its real meaning is all about a black sticky and highly viscous liquid material that is laid on the road during road construction.
In fact, roads can be made from concrete (consisting usually, sand and gravel, bonded together by cement and water) too, but roads are made from asphalt only because asphalt is very environmentally friendly and highly recyclable, counted as the most recycled material in the construction industry in many countries. Meaning that the asphalt road nearby your house, even if it is five, ten, or twenty years old or its condition may have become worst, but if it is disassembled and put into the machine, and then melting, bringing it fully reused in fresh construction again.
No matter how old the asphalt is, it can be used again, which seems to be an excellent property, leading it to use mostly in building roads. Another feature of asphalt roads is that they can bear the weight of very heavy vehicles and can withstand very high temperatures even when the temperature goes up to 50 to 65 degrees celsius, as it is always strong enough to handle extremely high temperatures. Concrete road, on the other hand, is very expensive as compared to the asphalt road, so it is used only for making alleys or minor roads. And even though asphalt is low in price, it is of very high quality in terms of value, even more than concrete.
Asphalt's another feature is also responsible for making the roads clearly visible during the summer and high temperatures, when the intense solar waves are not reflected back by the black color, as asphalt absorbs heat more easily and doesn’t affect road's visibility even in extremely hot conditions, helping us to see the roads clearly. Even the bright colors can be easily identified on the black roads during the night times, while bright colors are not easily recognizable on white roads. Also, the white line road markings are more comfortably recognizable on black roads whereas white lines are not as easily detected on white roads.
