Why Do Hospitals Always Have A (+) Plus Sign? What Does It Really Mean?

The hospitals, doctors' clinics, dispensaries, ambulances, and the nursing homes where the elderly people are taken care of, have one thing in common that they always have a (+) plus sign symbol, giving rise to a question, why do we always find a plus sign in all these places? But for clear information, let us tell you that this is not a plus sign but a Red Cross symbol, one of the most recognized symbols in the world. 

The Red Cross is a very large organization that was founded on 9 February 1863 and was started by five people together. There are more than 1 crore 70 lakh volunteers in this organization, which means so many volunteers, members, and staff are running it all together and it was formed with the aim of protecting human life and health, and even today this organization is actively doing its work almost across every country. 

This Red Cross Symbol, also known as the (+) Plus Sign which we usually see on ambulances got linked to such things as health care, human care, and long life. The Red Cross symbol is commonly used in hospitals to make them easily identifiable as the color red often represents danger and is represented as a symbol of protection, and often depicted as these people are not a part of the conflict and are simply there to help.

In this way, this red (+) plus sign was born from the combination of positive values and the International Red Cross Society, and to reflect this positivity, this (+) plus sign is usually displayed at such medical-related services. So this was the very simple reason why we see (+) sign in anything related to medical and is used by almost every doctor and medical care professional. 

However, in some parts of the world, the Red Cross is replaced with a Red Crescent, mainly in Islamic countries. But both these humanitarian networks have a central purpose to help those who are suffering, whether due to natural or man-made disasters, and seeking to promote human welfare.
