Have you ever noticed that whenever someone's mobile or landline rings, the first word they say is 'Hello'. In today's time, whoever has a phone, they all answer others phone call by saying "Hello" first, only then the rest of the conversation begins. The first spoken word on mobile phones today, whether in the country or abroad, is hello. Actually, Hello was invented to increase mutual interaction between people. This word became so common that today even in a country with different languages, this one word is being spoken in the same way as it is spoken in other countries. But have you ever thought about why we say "hello" first when picking up the phone?
According to some sources, the story of saying hello on the phone is associated with the inventor of the phone, and he not only invented the phone but also invented the language that we usually use on the phone. You must have heard somewhere that Alexander Graham Bell, the inventor of the phone, had a girlfriend named 'Margaret Hello' and on the name of her, Graham Bell emphasized the word "Hello" to be used first by everyone while starting a conversation on the phone.
But in reality, it was just a rumor because there was no girl named 'Margaret Hello' in his life, his real girlfriend's name was Mabel Hubbard. In fact, Graham Bell said that whenever someone will use my invention, that is, the telephone, to communicate with someone, they will say "Ahoy hoy" first while making or receiving a phone call.
But a few years later Thomas Edison, the inventor of the light bulb, put hello into common usage and urged the people who used his phone to say "hello" when answering. During this controversy, some people were in support of Thomas Edison i.e., Hello, and some were supporting Graham Bell i.e. Ahoy hoy. But then due to some unknown reason, the entire world accepted "Hello" and it became quite popular around the world, and "Ahoy hoy" became extinct.
