You all probably know that the whales are one of the largest creatures in the ocean, but do you know, sometimes, they can be so dangerous to us for their incredible ability to act like bombs. Yes, it is possible, whenever a big whale dies under any circumstances, there would be two cases. Either that whale will sink below the sea and become the food of small fishes or it will emerge on the sea beach or elsewhere while floating.
The deep-sea usually has a very low energy environment, therefore an entire whale offers a huge amount of food for the other sea creatures. On the other side, we all know that a whale weighs a lot and due to so much weight it is very difficult for its carcass to reach the beach, but still assume that somehow it reaches there. On average, they can weigh somewhere between 100-150 tons (200,000-300,000 pounds) as adults.
What happens next, when the whale's body arrives at the beach, its carcass begins to decompose but you know, the decomposing whale is one of the worst smells in the world. The decomposition process usually discharges ammonia as well as poisonous hydrogen sulfide (a gas that smells of rotten eggs), as the carcass is taken over by bacteria.
During the decomposition process, several gases start to build up in its body but the skin of the whale is very thick, so these gases get trapped inside its body and due to the heat of the sun from above, these gases start to expand more, and after reaching their peak limit, it causing the whale to explode.
The higher the temperature, the more will be the risk of explosion in the body as heat speed up the decomposition process. After the explosion, the pieces of the whale's body are scattered around and sometimes this explosion can even prove to be deadly.
