This breast tax was started to maintain the caste system, in olden times the clothes of the people varied according to their caste so that they could be easily identified by their dressing sense. But then a woman protested against this tax, whose name was Nangeli and who was in her 30's and belonged to Ezhava caste. Both Nangeli and her husband were laborers and she too had to pay breast tax like the rest of the lower caste community.

But Nangeli thought that this tax system was very wrong, that is why she protested against it by covering her breasts and not paying the breast tax. When the tax inspector finds out that a woman was not paying the tax, he went to her house and asked her to pay double the tax amount for breaking the law. But even then she refused to pay the tax, then the tax inspector tore Nangeli's clothes and abused her in front of the whole village.

As soon as this happened, Nangeli ran to her house and brought a knife and angrily told the inspector that you would only be able to do it until I have breasts. On saying this, she cut off her breasts and presented them to the tax inspector.

Seeing this scene, the entire village was completely shocked and due to excessive bleeding, Nangeli died there on the same day and seeing her mutilated body, her grieving husband is said to have jumped into her funeral pyre. These sinister actions greatly influenced the authority to change its decision, and the breast tax was abolished immediately.

It was really a very brave move for women of lower caste status in the early 1800s and Nangeli got what she wanted in return for her life. Due to the sacrifices of such brave people, we have now almost everything from freedom of speech to freedom of wearing.

According to another popular legend, a group of teenagers sought shelter in the tower during a stormy night, and due to a flash of lightning struck from the sky, they all were killed. But two of them were alive despite being severely burnt and they kept shouting for help all night, but it was difficult to hear their voice from the middle of the forest, so no one could come to help them, which led them to a painful death. Now there is also no evidence of this story being real, but here we have a third story similar to it, which was also mentioned in the local newspaper.

So the third story is dated back to 1967 when a 16-year-old Peggy Harmeson and her boyfriend Ronald Kevin Stevens took shelter in the tower to escape a terrible storm. They both entered the tower around 7:30 in the evening, but the very next day, the bodies of the two were found from the tower. If reports were to be believed, Lightning struck the tower and led them to death. Ronald's face and chest were badly burnt by lightning and Peggy's dead body was also found in the same condition from the eleventh step of the tower. People linked this incident to the already existing stories and hence this story also became a part of the haunted events of this tower. Consequently, the tower was closed forever.

But as soon as the tower went closed down, various rumors began to spread, such as whoever went inside the tower saw the burnt face of that girl there, and even after so many attempts, the blood of that girl has not been cleared from the stairs.

One summer two ghost chasers decided to explore this place, both of them went to the basement of the tower and tried to communicate with Peggy Harmeson using ghost meters and electromagnetic field radiation sensors and tried to record the whole scene in a videotape. At first, they did not feel anything, then suddenly all the electromagnetic sensors became active together. Then they heard some sounds coming from the top of the tower as if someone was laughing there. It was being said that a pentagonal design has been made on the top floor of the tower, which was not here initially. Actually, in the 1940s, it was built as a lookout tower as it offers a view of up to 15 miles out of the forest from its top. Originally there was no pentagonal design on its top floor, but there is no evidence that proves it to be true, but through this fact, an incident came to light that started depicting this tower as a witch tower. 

Around 1950, there were some nomads who came from the east in Ohio and these people brought some others with them, and over time these nomads stopped appearing in Ohio and people assumed that they had moved from here Or have gone elsewhere. But some locals notice that this nomadic group started taking shelter in that tower every night, they did not appear anywhere during the day, but at night they used to meet in the same tower. Due to their scary appearance, people did not want to get close to them and these nomads themselves did not like to connect with the local people.

There are many mythological stories in Hinduism, and in such stories, almost all the gods and goddesses, kings and emperors, warriors and apsaras are mentioned. Today we are ready to narrate to you one such mythological story, which is depicted as the tragic love story of Urvashi and her husband Pururavas. Several parts are seen in this story, which is full of love, compassion, and jealousy, so let's start the story by not wasting much time.

Pururavas was a Chandravanshi or the first lunar King, his father's name was Budha (connotes the planet Mercury), and his mother's name was Ila. Budha is also known as Soumya (son of Moon). Pururavas was a great warrior of his time, and Indra (the king of Svarga) had many times sought help from him during the war against the Asuras. Urvashi on the other hand was a beautiful nymph (Apsara) in the court of Indra. Bored with the comforts of the celestial life, she and other apsaras once came to spend some time on earth, during this time Urvashi started to enjoy more earthly life than Svarga Loka's life. She began to like earthly life filled with human emotions as opposed to the always-happy living in the heavens. After a few days, Urvashi was to return to Swarg Lok, and while returning back with the other Apsaras, she was abducted by a demon or asura named Keshi, who was determined to make her his bride.

When she was screaming furiously, Pururavas was traveling nearby and saw the Keshi (demon). He chased the demon on his chariot and fought with him, and rescued Urvashi from him. During the fight, Pururavas accidentally touched Urvashi. This was the first time when a mortal had touched Urvashi, causing an emotion of warmth to course through her body. Pururavas too became attracted to Urvashi by seeing the seductive beauty of this heavenly nymph. But then, Urvashi left him and went back. In heaven, she could not stop thinking about Pururavas. But the love of these two reached a higher level during a play. Actually, Urvashi participated in a play, in which she was playing the role of goddess Lakshmi and while playing the character, Urvashi accidentally called the name of Pururavas instead of taking the name of Lord Vishnu as her beloved.

After watching the entire scene, rishi Bharata who was directing the play got angry and cursed Urvashi that due to being attracted towards a human, she would have to stay on the earth and beget children like humans. This curse made the other apsaras recoil in horror but Urvashi did not feel a bit sad due to this curse. However, Indra modified the curse, so that she would remain an apsara. After this, Pururava and Urvashi start getting lost in each other's memories. And once again Urvashi descended on Earth, and both met each other and expressed their love. The two decided to live together, but Urvashi had some conditions as she was still bound to Indra’s heaven.

Urvashi stated her first condition as you must always protect the two sheep that she has brought with her, if anything happens to them, she will leave the earth. The second condition was about she will always consume ghee and according to the third condition, we must never see each other naked apart from when we’re making love. Pururavas accepted Urvashi's all conditions and both started living together happily, but soon their life was going to be tragic. So far they had completed 64 years in their love affair but still, both were living happily and were not ready to leave each other. Seeing this, the Indra and other devas of Swarglok were no longer liking the love affair of Pururava and Urvashi, as they were missing the most beautiful apsara that ever existed in heaven. They were jealous of their love, because, after Urvashi's arrival on earth, the brightness of heaven was also gone, so they planned to separate them.

One night Urvashi's sheep were stolen by the devas, and on hearing the noise of sheep, Urvashi woke up and requested Pururavas to see what was happening. Pururavas was naked at the time, as he had just woken up from sleep and did not have enough time to wear clothes, And being in a naked state, he had to chase the devas. During this time, the devas sent lightning from heaven that illuminated the night and the two saw each other naked, violating the third condition. The heartbroken Urvashi left for heaven as soon as this condition was violated. Both were extremely unhappy, though Urvashi took their child with her and later asked Pururavas to meet at Kurukshetra to give his child back to him. Later due to multiple sequences of events, Urvashi came back to Earth several times, and afterward, she had five other sons with Pururavas.
