It is a flat board marked with A to Z alphabet letters and 0 to 9 digits written on it. In addition, the words "yes", "No", occasionally "hello" and "goodbye", along with various symbols and graphics are also there on the board. To play this game, a small heart-shaped piece of wood or plastic called a planchette, is used, which acts as a movable indicator to spell out messages during a seance. This talking board was first started by the Song Dynasty in China in the eleventh century and then by the end of the eighteenth century, it had reached the United Kingdom, the United States, India, and Japan. By the time of 1886, this game had completely turned into spiritualism, as the people of America started using this talking board to communicate with the spirits of their lost relatives in the civil war. People of that time believed that with the help of this talking board, the spirits of their relatives can be called and once their spirits come on this Spirit Board, then they can ask any question from those spirits. During this process, the planchette on the board automatically starts moving to spell out messages for answering their questions.

In the year 1890, Elijah Bond acquired the patent of the Talking Board and became the official manufacture of the construction of this talking board, regarded as an innocent parlor game unrelated to the occult. In 1901, an employee of Elijah Bond's company took over the talking board production and this talking board was renamed as Ouija board. The employee said that he got the name "Ouija" only after using this board and that it was an ancient Egyptian word meaning "good luck". The special thing about this Ouija Board is that with the help of this board any spirit can be called, but whether it will be a holy spirit or an evil spirit, it is difficult to say. For this reason, it cannot be called simply a game, as the Ouija board has caused many deaths, as many have also fallen victim to demonic possession. Researchers and experts on paranormal events say that the Ouija Board is capable of opening the gateway between our real world and the paranormal world. Once this gateway opens, it becomes very easy for spiritual forces to come into the house where the Ouija Board is being used and can harm anyone.
