Started from Malleshwaram & Rajajinagar, this Urban Legend had spread like a fire in Bangalore, where a witch knocked on the door of people's house at night and called them in the voice of their relatives and if someone opened the door, he would surely die. Initially, the villagers did not find this to be credible and they began to refute these rumors. But within a few days, many news of this witch and its victims started coming out and the fear of this Witch started spreading in both these villages. In just a few days, many such incidents occurred in which people became victims of that witch. Local people and several newspapers were seen discussing this strange incident and no one had any way to avoid it. The situation was that after sunset, people would be imprisoned in their respective homes along with all the family members, and no matter how important the work was, they did not come out of their homes. In the evening, the roads of Malleshwaram and Rajajinagar, and other nearby villages used to transform into a deserted place.
One night, when a woman was called from outside by her husband's voice, then she got very scared because the woman's husband was sleeping with her there. The woman woke up in a panic and looked out of the window, but there was no one outside, then as soon as she went back to sleep, she heard the same voice again, now that woman had understood that this voice of that witch who was being discussed in the whole area. The woman said in a trembling tone, Nale Ba which means in English, come tomorrow. As soon as she said this, that voice stopped coming from outside, but the same thing happened to the woman the next night and once again, the voice stopped coming as she said "Nale Ba". This method of escape from the witch became popular among the people and there came a time when "Nale Ba" was written on the doors of almost every house in Bangalore.
But the rest of the people who had become victims of that 'witch' were probably not as lucky as that woman and the name of one such person was Nagesh who was 32 years old and lived in Malleshwaram with his family. One night while he was sleeping in his house, he realized that his mother was calling him from outside the house and knocking on the door. He quickly opened the door due to eagerness and curiosity, but there was the 'witch' who stood in front of her, not her mother. On opening the door, the witch, with a frightened laugh, attacked him and killed him with a single attempt. Like Nagesh, there were many people whose death was attributed to that witch. But after finding out the strange tips to get rid of this terrible witch, people started writing the words "Nale Ba" on the doors of their homes, and anyone who had written "Nale Ba", they never heard such voice. This incident of Nale Ba became so famous that till today, Nale Ba day is celebrated on 1st April amongst people in some areas of Bangalore. Even today, in some parts of Bangalore, the fear of this witch is so strong that even today people write "Nale Ba" outside their homes.
