The year 2020 has probably brought only devastation for the world because since it started, the only destruction is being seen everywhere. Earlier this year, who thought that this year the world would face a terrible epidemic that would be responsible for killing so many people around the world. Every country is engaged in making a vaccine for this deadly disease but so far no one has been successful. But even under such circumstances, the troubles are not diminishing, because to make the situation even worse, a terrible cyclone has knocked on the door. Probably all of you will be well aware of this cyclone, named Cyclone Amphan as it is currently being discussed everywhere on the Internet. The cyclonic storm Amphon is currently ruling over eastern India and is also affecting Bangladesh somewhere. The Super Cyclonic Storm Amphan has become the first tropical cyclone of the 2020 North Indian Ocean cyclone season and is classified as the first super cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal since the 1999 Odisha cyclone. After 21 years, the super cyclonic storm, Amphan has caused devastation in the coastal areas of Odisha and West Bengal. On Wednesday, 20 May, the storm's ferocious wind with a speed of 165 km per hour has shaken both the states.
Storm Amphan has caused devastation in West Bengal and Odisha, more damage has been done to West Bengal. The main center of the cyclone's landfall was West Bengal where the most widespread damage has been seen. Till late at night, both states continued to experience strong rains and strong winds. More than 5000 houses have been destroyed and a large number of trees and electric poles were uprooted due to the cyclone. Many of Kolkata's 14 million people are without electricity and communication has been disrupted. As soon as the storm Amphan arrived near Digha in West Bengal, its effect was seen in Howrah 168 km away, when the rooftop of a school broke down due to the high wind speed. The wind speed reached 170 km per hour due to the storm. The storm and wind speed caused great damage to the Howrah Bridge and put it into a very bad condition. Apart from Howrah Bridge, other parts of the city were also destroyed, the trees that fell down on the roads are proof of this. Teams of disaster management department, NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) and SDRF (State Disaster Relief Force) were deployed to remove trees that fell on the road after the storm devastation. They not only removed the fallen trees but also cut the wires hanging from the electric poles that fell on the road. A total of 15 deaths have been reported due to this catastrophe and there is no idea of the damage done to the property during this period. To avoid the destruction of the strongest storm, more than 5 lakh people were evacuated in West Bengal and 1.58 lakh people in Odisha. The storm has moved away but left behind signs of destruction everywhere.
