Forests covered approximately 30 percent of the world's land area, however, this number was very high at some point of time, which was around 50%. Apart from a large number of famous tourist destinations in the world, there are very small and unusual forests, which people are still unaware of. And these forests include many wondrous and mysterious trees that you will be surprised to know about. But today we are going to tell you about a group of trees which are famous for its uniqueness and strangeness. In the Menabe region of western Madagascar, there is a prominent group of Grandidier's baobab trees that are lining the dirt road between Morondava and Belon'i Tsiribihina, known as "The Avenue of the Baobabs". Grandidier's baobab is the biggest and most famous of Madagascar's six species of baobabs. The amazing landscape of this region attracts travelers from around the world, making it one of the most visited places in this area. It lies in a treeless plain, surrounded by fields and rice paddies, and said to be the most beautiful road in Madagascar.

It is believed that these baobab trees are more than 800 years old that are known locally as renala, which means "mother of the forest". These baobab trees can reach up to 98 feet of height. The diameter of the larger trees can reach up to 36 feet and the circumference can be up to 160 feet around. Along a 260 m stretch of the road, there is a row of about 20 - 25 imposing Baobab trees, making it one of the most impressive road. The Avenue of the Baobabs is also known as the Alley of Baobabs. At one time the trees dotting the lane were part of a rich forest of the trees, but in the last few years, as the country's population grew, the forests were cleared for agriculture, leaving only the baobab trees. Another reason is that some of the Baobab trees are affected every year under the influence of lightning and are also from the cyclones which hit the west coast of Madagascar.

But now private organizations have paid attention to the site and are promoting efforts to preserve this amazing site, making it the country's first nationally recognized natural monument so that the trees may survive for the next thousands of years. Regardless of its popularity as a tourist destination, there is no visitor center or gate fee in this area, and local residents get very little income from tourism. The beautiful surroundings of this wonderful site have transformed it into a photographer's heaven and it is particularly beautiful at sunset.
