It is notable for its flowerlike shape and is quite famous among tourists. There are some interesting things associated with this temple made in the shape of a lotus flower, for which it is mainly popular. The Lotus Temple is situated near Nehru Place, is a Bahá'í worship temple, where no pictures and statues are displayed. It is the designation of a place of worship, or temple, of the Bahá'í Faith. Eleven Bahá'í Houses of Worship have been built around the world and the Delhi Lotus Temple is one of them. The temple is located in the village of Bahapur in New Delhi. There are no idols in this temple and no religious rituals are performed in this temple.

The Lotus Temple was opened to public worship in December 1986. That is why it is also called the Taj Mahal of the 20th century. The building is composed of 27 free-standing marble-clad "petals" arranged in clusters of three to form nine sides. The temple is surrounded by nine doors opening onto a central hall with a height of slightly over 34.27metres. This temple is surrounded by ponds and beautiful gardens from all sides, due to which it seems that a lotus is blooming in water. There are nine water pools all around the petal structure and these pools are decorated with lights so that it can impress anyone with its amazing appearance.

Around 2500 pilgrims can enter in the Lotus temple at a time. It took ten years to complete the construction of the temple. The main purpose of making the temple a lotus shape was that the lotus flower gives the purpose of purity and peace by staying in the mud. The architect of this amazing building structure was an Iranian, Fariborz Sahba who now lives in Canada. There is no photo or statue of any kind inside this temple, yet there is a huge crowd of devotees in this temple. According to a 2001 report, it was said to be the world's most visited place with more than 70 million visitors.
