Coron Island is home to one of the most stunning spots in all of the Philippines. It is often listed as one of the top tourist destinations in the Philippines. This amazing place is notable for its several unique and breathtaking sights. It is the third-largest island in the Calamian Islands (Calamian Islands is a group of islands in the Philippine province of Palawan) in northern Palawan. Technically, two Coron Philippines are there, one is actually the name of the largest town on Busuanga Island and the other is a small island 30 minutes away from Coron Town.
The Calamian Islands in Northern Palawan separates the South China Sea from the Sulu Sea. Coron Island is partially located between Busuanga and Culion islands, and faces the Sulu Sea and forms the eastern side of Coron Bay. The Municipality of Coron comprises the eastern half of Busuanga Island, all of Coron Island and about 50 other minor islets.
The second highest mountain in the city of Coron, Mount Tapyas is the most distinctive landmark in this area. If you are looking for some adventure in which the boat is not involved, then try to climb up on the top of Mount Tapyas. Because at the top of it you will be able to see the fascinating views of the town of Coron and its surrounding areas.
The Coron Island is dominated by steep cliffs and Karst rock structures, which is made of Permian limestone of Jurassic origin that comprises approximately 70% of its area. The 25% area is of rolling hills and only 5% is relatively flat. There are 11 lakes in the rugged terrain, of which 3 have underground links to the sea.
Coron is one of the most visited destinations for wreck diving in the Philippines. There are many dive sites around Coron which include several reef dive sites and "Gunter´s Cave". Gunter´s Cave is also known as Cathedral Cave because during a certain time of the day, the sun throws a beam of light through a hole in the cave ceiling, illuminating the inside. If you really want to see a unique and gorgeous form of nature then this is the best place that you should definitely visit.
