Thanks to the unique beautiful natural appearance of earth, the La Palma Island, which is a part of Canary Islands in Spain is considered to be one of the best places in the world to discover and explore the space and its stars. It is the most north-westerly island of the Canary Islands that has an area of 706 sq km making it the fifth largest of the seven main Canary Islands. In Spanish the island is called "Isla de la Palma". La Palma is also known as "Isla Bonita" which means beautiful island. In Europe, hardly any other place would be preferred by astronomers compared to the Canary Islands. In this case, the islands of Tenerife and La Palma are most famous. La Palma is a volcanic ocean island like the other islands of the Canary Island archipelago. The volcano rises almost 7 km above the floor of the Atlantic Ocean. According to astronomers, due to the north-east trade winds, the clouds are formed at a height of 700 to 1500 meters above sea level. This means that the vast mountain range extends from one end of the island to the other, never covered with clouds. Roque de los Muchachos is the highest mountain of the island with 2,426 meters of height, which always keeps the clouds under it.
Here the sky is so clear, which can be compared only by remote areas of Chile and Hawaii. There is neither industry nor any major city in the area due to which pollution is non-existent. Then it's not very surprising that there is a wide variety of telescopes installed in the "Roque de los Muchachos" for astronomers exploring the space. Due to the location of the island and the height of its mountains, a number of international observatories have been built on the Roque de los Muchachos. The large telescopes installed in a row have been built and operated by experts from different countries. These are the experts whose purpose is to explore distant planets, black holes, supernovas and other astronomical phenomena in space. The telescopes at the observatory include Isaac Newton Group of Telescopes, Nordic Optical Telescope, Swedish 1-m Solar Telescope, Dutch Open Telescope, Carlsberg Meridian Telescope, Mercator Telescope, Liverpool Telescope, Gran Telescopio Canarias, Telescopio Nazionale Galileo, MAGIC Telescope and SuperWASP-North telescope. Among the equipments installed in this observatory has also include Gamma-Ray Telescope which looks like a huge satellite dish.

Today La Palma is very popular among people who are interested in Astro Tourism and always come to see the clear sky on its mountains. It gives an amazing experience by spending all night long under a bright sky filled with stars. The island has been declared a UNESCO biosphere reserve. It is home to numerous protected natural spaces, including the Caldera de Taburiente National Park inland. There are many such special places have been built on the island from where people can enjoy the amazing scene of space and stars.
