The word 'cemetery of cars' sounds a little strange to hear, but there is a town called Chatillon in the province of Luxembourg of Southern Belgium where a 70 year old car cemetery exists. It is a section of the Belgian town of Saint-Leger, located in Wallonia municipality. This place is known as cemetery of cars because in this forest of Belgium, more than 500 cars are still standing which are more than 70 years old. All the cars parked in one place for the last 70 years have been damaged and trees, plants have grown over them. The cars involved in the graveyard always forces everyone to shock that why no one knows about such cars, how did these cars come here? However, many stories are said about these cars here, but the story that is most prevalent, links the relationship to the US soldiers.
It is said that after the end of the Second World War, when the American soldiers started preparing to return home, they realized that they could not bring their vehicles back home. Then they realized that this small village of Chatillon to be the most suitable to hide their cars, because it was a mountainous area and hidden away among the trees, and the people were not at all to come here. The idea of American soldiers was to hide these cars here for some time. The soldiers never meant to leave their cars behind forever, their plan was to bring the cars back to the US. They had plans to return and retrieve their vehicles when they had the chance, but this could not happen and these cars remained here forever.
However, local people do not believe in this story. According to them, all this is done by local residents. Some people say that these cars are of local residents. Whenever someone's car broke down, he comes up here and leave behind his car in this forest. However, this is difficult to believe because all the cars belong to the same model.
But due to concerns about environmental issues, car graveyard has been closed in the past years.
