Hạ Long Bay is Vietnam’s most popular tourist attraction and for this reason it has become too crowded. But you will not be able to stop yourself from visiting this place once in your life because it is the most beautiful place in Vietnam. Ha Long Bay is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and popular travel destination in Quang Ninh Province, Vietnam. The bay belongs to Ha Long City, Cam Pha town, and is a part of Van Don District. Ha Long Bay is as stunning in real life as the images portray. Just be sure to expect crowds, this destination has become a hot spot over recent years. There are around thousands of limestone karsts (Karst is a topography formed from the dissolution of soluble rocks such as limestone, dolomite, and gypsum) and isles in various shapes and sizes in the bay. Ha Long Bay is a center of a larger zone which includes Bai Tu Long Bay to the northeast, and Cat Ba Island to the southwest. Hạ Long Bay is a vision of ethereal beauty and, unsurprisingly, northern Vietnam's number one tourism hub.
Ha Long Bay has an area of around 1,553 km2, including 1,960–2,000 islets, most of which are limestone. The core of the bay has an area of 334 km2 with a high density of 775 islets. Ha Long Bay is home to 14 endemic floral species and 60 endemic faunal species. The limestone in this bay has gone through 500 million years of formation in different conditions and environments. The evolution of the karst in this bay has taken 20 million years under the impact of the tropical wet climate. 500 years ago, Nguyen Trai (Nguyen Trai was an illustrious Vietnamese Confucian scholar, a noted poet, a skilled politician and a master strategist) praised the beauty of Ha Long Bay in his verse Lộ nhập Vân Đồn, in which he called it "rock wonder in the sky". In 1962, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of North Vietnam listed Ha Long Bay in the National Relics and Landscapes publication. In 1994, the core zone of Ha Long Bay was listed as a World Heritage Site.
The climate of the bay is tropical, wet, sea islands, with two seasons: hot and moist summer, and dry and cold winter. The average temperature is from 15 °C- 25 °C, and annual rainfall is between 2 meters and 2.2 meters. Of the 1,969 islands in Ha Long, only approximately 40 are inhabited. These islands range from tens to thousands of hectares in size, mainly in the East and Southeast of Ha Long Bay. The population of Ha Long Bay is about 1,540. Residents of the bay mostly live on boats and rafts to facilitate the fishing, cultivating and breeding of aquatic and marine species. Today the life of Ha Long Bay inhabitants has much improved due to new travel businesses. In 2000, the UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee has inscribed the Ha Long Bay in the World Heritage List according to its original limestone karstic geomorphologic features. In 2012, New 7 Wonders Foundation officially named Ha Long Bay as one of New Seven Natural Wonders of the world. Ha Long Bay is also a member of the Club of the Most Beautiful Bays of the World. Ha Long Bay includes many caves. Dau Go cave (literally: "the end of wooden bars" cave), Kim Quy cave (literally: "Golden Turtle" cave), Hang Trong and Hang Trinh Nu (litterally: Male cave and Virgin cave). All visitors must purchase entry tickets for the national park and there are also separate admission tickets for attractions in the bay, such as caves and fishing villages.
