Nature has created many beautiful sights around the world like Islands, Beaches, Hills and many more. May be we are forgetting the most beautiful Scenery of nature. Can you guess it what am i talking about. Yes, of course, i am talking about the waterfalls, which are the most important parts of nature. There are many beautiful waterfalls around the world. But today, we will talk about the one and only Victoria Falls which is the world's largest waterfall. Victoria Falls is a waterfall in southern Africa on the Zambezi River at the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. It is one of the greatest attractions in Africa and one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the world. It is the only waterfall in the world which has a length of more than a kilometer and a height of more than hundred meters. It has a width of 1,708 metres (5,604 ft) and height of 108 metres (354 ft). The noise of this waterfall can be heard from a distance of 40 kilometers away. It is the world's largest sheet of falling water. Victoria Falls is roughly twice the height of North America's Niagara Falls and well over twice the width of its Horseshoe Falls. The Scottish missionary and explorer, David Livingstone, is believed to have been the first European to view Victoria Falls on 16 November 1855, this place is now known as Livingstone Island. Livingstone named his discovery in honour of Queen Victoria of Britain. But the local tribes used to call the waterfall Mosi-o-Tunya - “The smoke that thunders”. Victoria Falls is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The World Heritage List officially recognizes both names. There are two islands on the crest of the falls that are large enough to divide the curtain of water even at full flood - Boaruka Island near the western bank, and Livingstone Island near the middle - the point from which Livingstone first viewed the falls.
Victoria falls is one of the most famous tourist attraction. By the end of the 1990s almost 400,000 people were visiting the falls annually, and this was expected to rise to over a million in the next decade. The citizens of both Zambia and Zimbabwe no longer have fear of the “the smoke that thunders”, and are successfully developing the tourism on both sides of the river. The water level of the river changes throughout the year; it is at its peak in April, at the end of the rainy season and it is at its lowest level in October and early November. When the dry season comes the water level in the Zambezi River drops sharply, and it becomes possible to walk through some parts of the waterfall. But the rest of the time Victoria Falls is always loaded with water which acts as a most powerful machine that can strike anyone with its powerful flow of water. There are two national parks at the falls, which are relatively small - Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park is 66 square kilometres and Victoria Falls National Park is 23 square kilometres. Victoria Falls has more Zimbabwean and Zambian visitors than international tourists; the attraction is accessible by bus and train.
Beautiful place.
