The view of the waterfall is always very fascinating, which attracts thousands of tourists. The pleasant scenes around the waterfalls win the hearts of many people. There are many waterfalls in India, but the name of Jog Falls always remains above them. If you want to see the beautiful flowing water stream from the lap of nature, then you should definitely see this beautiful waterfall of India. Jog Falls is the second highest plunge waterfall in India. Plunge waterfall is that waterfall in which the fast moving water descends vertically, losing complete contact with the bedrock surface. The contact is typically lost due to horizontal thrust of the water before it falls. It always starts from a narrow stream. Jog Falls is also known as Gerosoppa Falls or Joga Falls. Joga is a Kannada word meaning falls. Jog Falls is located near Sagara taluk, Shimoga district in the state of Karnataka, India. It is a major tourist attraction and is ranked 13th in the world by the waterfall database. This magnificent waterfall is a major tourist attraction in Karnataka. The falls are located on the Uttara Kannada and Sagara border. It is on the river Sharavathi in Karnataka.
The splendid view of this waterfall creates a truly memorable experience. It is created by the Sharavathi River dropping 253 m or 830 ft, making it the second-highest plunge waterfall in India after the Nohkalikai Falls with a drop of 335 m or 1100 ft in Meghalaya. Its water falls from the height of 253 meters and offers a great view. It is made up of four distinct falls - Raja, Roarer, Rocket and Rani. These are four distinct falls formed due to falling from the great height of the river Sharavathi. However, due to the construction of Linganamakki Dam, the flow in the falls is hugely restricted before monsoons. Before the onset of monsoon season, when there is not much water in the Linganmakki dam, the Jog Falls are a pair of thin streams of water trickling down the cliff, as the water collected in the dam is exclusively for generation of electricity. During monsoons local rain water is the source of water to the falls. The Tourism Department has built steps from the viewpoint to the bottom of the hill where the waterfall can be seen at the opposite side. There are approximately 1400 steps built to reach the bottom of the hill. Some strange, special and mysterious scenes attract everyone to the Jog waterfall. Every time the monsoon fills a different color in the beauty of here. The beauty of this scene is enhanced by the atmosphere of green nature. When you are on the trip to Jog Falls then you must go to Linganamakki Dam. If you want to see this most beautiful view, then you have to come to Karnataka.
