Nature has created many beautiful places on earth including Islands. Today we will talk about an island which is very famous for its amazing beauty, named as Bora Bora Island. Bora Bora Island is one of the most beautiful islands in the world. It is an island in the Leeward group of the Society Islands (The Society Islands includes a group of islands in the South Pacific Ocean) of French Polynesia, an "Overseas Country" financially assisted by France in the Pacific Ocean. It is a volcanic island. The island is located about 230 kilometres northwest of Papeete, is surrounded by a lagoon and a barrier reef. The area of Bora Bora Island is 30.55 km2. Undoubtedly, It is the most celebrated island in the South Pacific. In the center of the island are the remnants of an extinct volcano rising to two peaks, Mount Pahia and Mount Otemanu, the highest point at 727 metres. It's volcanic peak just appears from anywhere on the bora bora and creates a magnificent backdrop for the blue lagoon and white sandy beaches. In ancient times the island was called "Pora pora mai te pora", meaning "created by the gods" in the local Tahitian dialect. This was often abbreviated Pora Pora meaning simply first born. As of 2017, the Bora Bora group has a permanent population of 10,605. Bora Bora is one of the few places on earth that everyone hopes to witness in their lifetime.
The Bora Bora island was inhabited by Polynesian settlers around the 4th century. The first European sighting was made by Jakob Roggeveen in 1722. James Cook sighted the island on 29 July 1769, using a Tahitian navigator, Tupaia. The London Missionary Society arrived in 1820 and founded a Protestant church in 1890. Bora Bora was an independent kingdom until 1888 when its last queen Teriimaevarua III (last Queen of the Tahitian island of Bora Bora from 1873 to 1895) was forced to abdicate by the French who annexed the island as a colony.

Several resorts have been built on this area surrounding the lagoon. Hotel Bora Bora opened in 1961, and nine years later built the first over-the-water bungalows on stilts over the lagoon. Many celebrities of the world come here for spend their holidays, and this can give you an idea of how many luxurious services are available here.
