There are many such beautiful places in the world which have hidden many scary truths behind their beauty. Poveglia Island of Italy, is one of the most beautiful sight of the world. But the truth behind this island is very terrible. This island is also known as 'The Island of Dead'. Poveglia is a small island located between Venice and Lido in the Venetian Lagoon, northern Italy. A small canal divides the island into two separate parts. It is said that the people who go there never come back alive. Actually, there is a terrible story associated with this island, due to which people do not even want to go there. It is said that hundreds of years ago this island was suffered from the death of many plague patients. The Island use continued later even during Black Death. In those cases, those who died were buried on this island. After seeing the increasing number of patients, about 1,60000 sick people were burnt alive. Since then people began to consider it as a ghostly place and this island became completely deserted. However, the Mental Hospital was built on this island in 1922, but it was closed after a few years. It is said that here doctors and nurses started to see many unusual things and the mental patients admitted in the hospital were also seen the ghost of plague patients. This island was again deserted for many years after the closure of Mental Hospital. After this Italy's government sold it to the private owner in 1960. The man stayed there with his family for a few days and then left this place. After this, a second family bought it to build a holiday home, but he could also stay here for only one day. It is said that someone had cut the mouth of the daughter of the island's owner, due to which, fourteen stitches had to put on it to recover.
Even after all these incidents, many people have tried to investigate it. But most of the people who went in search of truth could not come back from here and this island became desolate forever. However, those who survived, had said that the souls of those who died from the disease wander here. A person who spent the night on this island told that someone asked me to leave this island immediately and gave a warning of punishment. However, what is the truth of this ghostly island, is still a mystery. It is forbidden to go to this island, the government has banned people to go there. Fishermen do not even go near this island for fishing. Many times the human bones of the dead are caught in their fishing nets. The surviving buildings on the island consist of a cavana, a church, a hospital, an asylum, a bell-tower and housing and administrative buildings for the staff. The bell-tower is the most visible structure on the island, and dates back to the 12th century. It belonged to the church of San Vitale, which was demolished in 1806. The tower was re-used as a lighthouse. The island has been featured on the paranormal shows Ghost Adventures and Scariest Places on Earth.
